Street Beet November 19th, 2011: Saskatchewan Maple Syrup...

Saskatchewan Maple Syrup is a rare commodity, but not rare at the Market today! Gerald and Jillaian Morriarty are new vendors beginning today with a perfect product this time of year. Gerald has a farm out near Kamsack that has Manitoba Maples (the tree not the place). Jillian was telling me that the temperature has to be just right to tap the trees for this delicious product. This can mean lots of sap or just a little for the year. The sap is then boiled down, they must use about 40 parts to get 1 part of finished Maple Syrup. Just imagine the uses for this great product! On pancakes, in cakes, on cokked carrots with butter...mmm, I am having a cravimng for some right now. You will find Jill at the Chapel Cheeses booth today.

Market starts at 9:30, ends at 1:30 at 2900 13th Avenue. This weekend is Shop the Village in Cathedral, you have to come check out the sales. There will be a Christmas Craft sale at the Westminister Church put on by the Cathedral Area Association. You would be very surprised at the beautiful Christmas present you can get in the unique Cathedral shops. Come on out and support the neighbourhood. Ada
